Upgrade Your Space in the New Year

New year, new you, right? There’s always something so refreshing and energizing about new beginnings and a new year: we welcome opportunity and manifest the things we hope to achieve. For many of us, we’ll write down new year’s resolutions or goals we have for 2023. At Personal Space, we also see the new year as a chance to refresh our space and our surroundings and enter the year with a fresh perspective.

Whether you’re looking to freshen up your personal space or if you’re a designer looking to reengage with clients in the new year, check out these three suggestions for adjusting a room to make all the difference in the new year.

Switch to Simple

A good first step in freshening up any space in the new year is to identify where you can simplify an area. It’s easy for spaces to feel cluttered even if there is no mess, and more often than not it’s because a piece of furniture is taking up more space than it should. In the new year, make the switch in your home or your client’s space to a more simple look.

For example, one of our designers, Eva Natasa, slept in a bare room for four months to discover what pieces of furniture are essential to our existence. The result? A beautiful, minimalist collection of chairs, stools, benches and more. Sometimes, less really is more.

Add a Touch of Unique

Make your home or your client’s space truly personalized with unique artisan pieces. These pieces will not only act as a conversation starter, but it will also allow your true personality and persona shine through. The best part is you don’t have to go overboard, start with just one item or room at a time.

Need some inspo? In 2023, texture is trending, especially in unexpected places. Our Speciality Bamboo Walls add visual interest and their natural color complement the palette of any room. Or, consider swapping out existing art with a fresh piece. When it comes to size - we say go big! As a general rule, art should take up 65-70% of the wall space that is not covered by furniture molding or outlets.

Remember the Power of Lighting

In our opinion, lighting should be both functional and fashionable. While serving its purpose is important, you should also consider how lighting can make or break a space. It can determine the look and feel of a room and set the vibe for the rest of the home or establishment. What may seem like a small adjustment will actually end up leaving you refreshed and renewed.

From hanging lamps like the Kelopak Pendant Light and the Mesh Metal Capung Pendant Light to standing statement lamps like the Ong Cen Kuang Bulat Standing Lamp and the Mekar Standing Lamp, there are endless options for creating the vibe you’re looking for in 2023.

As we begin a new year, make the decision to allow 2023 to be the year that you refresh your or your client’s space and allow true creativity and uniqueness drive your design.

The Personal Space MB Green Design Series: Bamboo Edition.

Posted by Lianne Stokes on

Bamboo has long been the favorite snack of the panda bear. But in 2020, the plant's biggest fans are furniture and interior designers. Green design is a pressing issue in the interiors industry as each Friday, we see environmental advocates standing out on Social media in locations from DC to Iceland and beyond for Fire Drill Fridays. Today, we'd like to introduce our Green Design Series, which shares inspiration for how you can have a greener home by using sustainable products. You won't have to compromise on style, which is the best part!

Now, let's talk BAMBOO.

 1. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. It's most renewable super grass. Some species grow an inch an hour, with most bamboo averaging growth of up to 3.5 feet per hour. No fertilizer is needed to grow bamboo, it's truly the most regenerative gift of nature. If you've got a commercial project at a resort, or a residential space that demands Green Design, we are in LOVE with our bamboo wall features and lighting.

                                      The Bamboo Spiral Wall Feature.

                                          Curved Bamboo Wall Feature.

                                                  Bamboo Spiral Pendant.

2.  Bamboo is a grass which makes it more water resistant and stronger than hardwood. The benefits of having outdoor bamboo furniture are endless!

                                                      The Lincak Chair

The Linear Collection Bamboo Bar Stool.

The Radee Collection Bamboo Sofa Bed

3. Bamboo is biodegradable, antibacterial and odor resistant. Basically, bamboo is the only furniture you CAN have around pets and kids! :-)

 Peek Collection Mini Bar Cabinet
