How Your Personality Type Affects Your Design Aesthetic.

Posted by Lianne Stokes on

This summer we did a deep dive into western astrology pairing 12 zodiac signs  with their perfect interior match. It was a smash. Several of you told us you wanted more! So we got to thinking. We have a diverse clientele who keep us busy when it comes to appealing to their unique interior design sensibilities. We thought styling for 12 sun signs was a fun challenge, we decided to share with you the Myers- Briggs personality test. Thanks to the cool kids over at, we were able to get an education on exactly what Myers-Briggs consists of and then apply it to our unique furniture, home accessories and lighting. What defines you? if you do not know your Myers Briggs results take the test here.  Let us know what you think? Did we match you or your loved ones with the ultimate in interior gifts? Or did you want something else? The great thing about Personal Space is we have thousands of unique pieces for your home, so no matter who you are, we are ready to find something to win you over.
The PSMB Team.

INFPThe Healer

INFPs are imaginative idealists, guided by their own core values and beliefs. To a Healer, possibilities are paramount; the reality of the moment is only of passing concern. They see potential for a better future, and pursue truth and meaning with their own flair.

Healers are optimists. It can be challenging to be an optimist in this world, but in our humble opinion, Healers see the beauty in everything and everyone. It's invaluable to see The Healer in your life. They're the ones helping you see the good in situations that appear to be terrible. They practice gratitude in the face of despair. It feels hopeful to be in the presence of The Healer. Always a champion of those around him or her, we are grateful for The Healers who keep up looking up!

For The Healer, we choose the Buhana Lounge.  A retro cool-looking chair aptly in the shape of a heart.

INTJ: The Mastermind

INTJs are analytical problem-solvers, eager to improve systems and processes with their innovative ideas. They have a talent for seeing possibilities for improvement, whether at work, at home, or in themselves.

Our expertise is in representing top furniture designers, but we feel The Mastermind is a bit of a perfectionist. The Mastermind will poke a hole where others see no fault and propose a way to make something better. They are the Version 2.0 people.

We have just the item for them. The flawless, scaled to perfection, Lula Teak Square Table. The wood is humanely sourced and carefully selected in-person by top industrial designer, Eva Natasa. The Lula line is simple in design and complex in craftsmanship. Easy to move, this table disassembles by twisting the legs. Just heaven for The Mastermind.

ENTJThe Commander

ENTJs are strategic leaders, motivated to organize change. They are quick to see inefficiency and conceptualize new solutions, and enjoy developing long-range plans to accomplish their vision. They excel at logical reasoning and are usually articulate and quick-witted.

To us, we view The Commander as the witty friend who is a leader by nature. They're the hero who swoops in and says, "Know what? This process doesn't make sense, let's make a plan to fix it." Our world is mired in bureaucratic rules that impede our common sense processes. The Commander has the stamina to make things right. If you or a loved on fits this type, we recommend a regal and stately chair where The Commander can think. It's a no-brainer that we pick  The Kearra Lounge.  An outdoor chair inspired by the shape of a wine glass, the Kearra lounge defines interior design goals. Our clients love sinking into the plush weather-resistant cushions and vibing with the outdoor glam this chair brings.

INFJ : The Counselor

INFJs are creative nurturers with a strong sense of personal integrity and a drive to help others realize their potential. Creative and dedicated, they have a talent for helping others with original solutions to their personal challenges.

The Counselor is not only talented, but giving of his/her mentorship. If you are lucky enough to have The Counselor is your life you most likely feel inspired by their creativity and guided by their mentorship. For The Counselor we chose our shining light, The Kelopak Pendant Lamp. The majesty of The Kelopak needs no endorsement. Coming in 4 sizes, some of our clients like to hang The Kelopak in sizes small to extra large, creating a canopy of illumination. To all the Counselors out there who spend so much time helping others, this light is for you!

INTPThe Architect

INTPs are philosophical innovators, fascinated by logical analysis, systems, and design. They are preoccupied with theory, and search for the universal law behind everything they see. They want to understand the unifying themes of life, in all their complexity.

For those of us lucky to know The Architect type, you're most likely in the company of a professor, philospher, scientist, researcher, engineer or analyst. These types keep our motors running! It's an interior design dream to find the perfect home decor for those fascinated by design and function. For The Architect, we want to give them something they don't have to think about; something that they can agree is perfect in design without their intervention, The Rubic Two-Seater.

ENFPThe Champion

ENFPs are people-centered creators with a focus on possibilities and a contagious enthusiasm for new ideas, people and activities. Energetic, warm, and passionate, ENFPs love to help other people explore their creative potential.

The Champion reminds us of the mom or dad in your neighborhood who looked at each kid as untapped potential. The woman who came up with creative arts and crafts projects or the encouraged you to audition for the school play. Or the couch who helped motivate you both mentally and psychically. The Champion is a positive light in our community and is known to affect people in a positive way for generations to come. The Champion is that person you fondly remember after losing touch. So what home decor is right for The Champion? We select, The Mayla Oversize Chair.  This  amazing piece comes in a 1-seater too. The Mayla is a perfect outdoor furniture match for The Champion. It's something he or she can enjoy in the company of all the people who feel loved and supported by him or her.

ENTPThe Visionary

ENTPs are inspired innovators, motivated to find new solutions to intellectually challenging problems. They are curious and clever, and seek to comprehend the people, systems, and principles that surround them.

Everyone benefits from knowing a visionary. They are the very types who uncover who you are and how to best navigate any relationship they find themselves in. Always looking into a deeper meaning of their surroundings, visionaries are an interior designer's dream. For The Visionary, we choose The The Matahari Wall Lamp and The Matahari Mirror Wall Lamp.  With these pieces, we hope our Visionary taps into their reflection and uncovers something new and unique.

ENFJThe Teacher

ENFJs are idealist organizers, driven to implement their vision of what is best for humanity. They often act as catalysts for human growth because of their ability to see potential in other people and their charisma in persuading others to their ideas.

We think of the Teacher as those who work in our schools using their tools to expand young minds, but we also see The Teacher type as being a creator of a water filter in Third World Nations or a startup that focuses on community building and creating resources needed. These "teachers" use their organization and vision for the greater good of the globe. They teach humanity how to fish :-)

For The teacher we select  to illuminate the Rubic Slim Shelf. Simply perfection for The Teacher in your life to shelve all their books, writings and pictures. We love to see what The Teacher places upon this amazing and intricate design!

ISFJThe Protector

ISFJs are industrious caretakers, loyal to traditions and organizations. They are practical, compassionate, and caring, and are motivated to provide for others and protect them from the perils of life.

What is better than having The Protector in your life? They're loyal, family-oriented, and gifted when it comes to keeping their community out of harm's way.  The Protector is a tireless job. When we think of what home accessories The protector needs it was a no-brainer.  We selected the Interlock Brass Wall Art . As The Protector navigates the good, the bad and the ugly, this shield is a sign a valor and gratitude from The Protector's community.

ISFPThe Composer

ISFPs are gentle caretakers who live in the present moment and enjoy their surroundings with cheerful, low-key enthusiasm. They are flexible and spontaneous, and like to go with the flow to enjoy what life has to offer.

Ah, The Composer. Music to our ears. Everyone needs a chill guy or girl in their circle.  With The Composer you don't have to worry about drama. This personality type can hang with any walk of life in a harmonious manner. You can bring The Composer anywhere. What do you give interior-wise to a person who always makes you feel at home? We choose  The Rumput Table Lamp.  So cool-looking and in the shape of an accordion, this lamp sets a mellow mood in any situation. Just like The Composer!

ISTJThe Inspector

ISTJs are responsible organizers, driven to create and enforce order within systems and institutions. They are neat and orderly, inside and out, and tend to have a procedure for everything they do.

It's helps to have an Inspector in your realm. Someone who can "Marie Kondo" your life when you need help. The Inspector creates order from the top allowing others to benefit from their seamless organizational skills. They make stellar candidates in business operations and management positions. Neat and tidy, we rise to the occasion to decorate The Inspector's home! We pick the Lincak Bamboo Chair.  It's design is so simple and clean, The Inspector would finally have a chance to sit down.

ISTP: The Craftsperson

ISTPs are observant artisans with an understanding of mechanics and an interest in troubleshooting. They approach their environments with a flexible logic, looking for practical solutions to the problems at hand.

The Craftsperson is the soul who can figure out what other people are missing. They enjoy finding the problem/s and are flexible when additional issues arise.  These are the people you go to when your car has trouble or you can't get the cable TV to work. Their great asset is being able to handle a problem caused by another problem. What could best fill the home of such a patient and diligent member of our community? We have just the piece! The Sedan Relax Chair in Leather. This chair is so well-designed and durable, The Craftsperson will have no problems to solve. At least while they are sitting down. :-)

ESFJThe Provider

ESFJs are conscientious helpers, sensitive to the needs of others and energetically dedicated to their responsibilities. They are highly attuned to their emotional environment and attentive to both the feelings of others and the perception others have of them.

The Provider is the personality type everyone needs in their lives. Both highly considerate of others and emotionally intelligent, The Provider will have to remember to give themselves a little TLC too! This person gives new definition of what it means to say, "home sweet home." When selecting home decor for a friend and family member so helpful and empathetic it's easy. For The Provider we select Porcelain Matte Black With Gold Aquoso Rim plate set. Our only request is that after all The Provider has done for you, you cook or order him/her dinner. <3

ESFPThe Performer

ESFPs are vivacious entertainers who charm and engage those around them. They are spontaneous, energetic, and fun-loving, and take pleasure in the things around them: food, clothes, nature, animals, and especially people.

Do you know a performer? The person at the dinner party who hold court? The fashionista with all the latest makeup tips? The witty co-worker who knows how to charm the client to make your life easier? This type is like a pop of glitter in a gloomy sky. There's always one in a crowd! Being that The Performer is an extravert we have carefully selected something stylish to dazzle The Performer's home like they do our lives.

For this entertaining someone, we choose the ever fun Wonton Table Lamp. It's a conversation piece just like

ESTJThe Supervisor

ESTJs are hardworking traditionalists, eager to take charge in organizing projects and people. Orderly, rule-abiding, and conscientious, ESTJs like to get things done, and tend to go about projects in a systematic, methodical way.

The Supervisor makes an excellent manager at work. Great with order, people and multi-tasking. The Supervisor will make sure things get done. People in this category can help you manage your time. Most of us are always craving more time. Lean on The Supervisor in your life to show you how to organize, handle problems relating to other people and work flow and you'll learn and grow. For the one who is natural when it comes to managing people and things, we have The Linger Bench. This way, The Supervisor has a statement piece similar to a crown for their office. It may make it easier while sitting upon this very special bench to solve problems a bit faster. If anything, everyone The Supervisor helps will agree, this is a very chic piece.

ESTPThe Dynamo

ESTPs are energetic thrillseekers who are at their best when putting out fires, whether literal or metaphorical. They bring a sense of dynamic energy to their interactions with others and the world around them.

Watch out as The Dynamo comes crashing through. Whether he or she is an adrenaline junkie or a hero, you will never be bored with The Dynamo by your side. As you well know, an outfit is never complete without accessories and neither is an interior space without art. For the firecracker in your life, we excitedly select the painting, aptly titled, "Do I Dare Disturb The Universe?"

Do we need to say more?
